Muscles are used whenever you move. Without muscles you would not be able to walk, run or even eat your food ! There are over 650 muscles in your body. This makes up nearly half of your total body weight. Muscles are made up of bundles of long, stretchy threads. The strength and power of a muscle depends on how many of these threads it has. The more exercise the muscles get the bigger and stronger the threads grow. When muscles get no exercise the threads get smaller and the muscles get weaker. Muscles come in a great variety of sizes. Your largest muscle is in your bottom whereas your smallest is in your ear. Most muscles are
connected to your bones by tendons. These tendons are flexible cables which can be very long.
