Eco School

Eco Committee Members 2007-2008

Cwrt Rawlin Primary

In the Eco Committee we do lots of things to help people learn about the environment. The eco committee don't just tell people about it though; we actually act to help it!
We have already started to make and put up posters telling people to recycle their fruit peelings and waste so that we can compost them to help the environment. We have also been collecting dead and rotten wood to go in the wild area at the back of our school to encourage all sorts of wildlife from worms to lizards and birds. We asked Ceri Gale, a ranger from Caerphilly Countryside services to help us and he delivered some fossilised bog wood and explained that it will make brilliant habitats for beetles, centipedes, wood lice, wood mice and even slow worms.
In January we advertised for new Eco Members and had lots of replies form children all over the school. After discussing it for a long time we decided to offer the chance to be on the Eco Committee to Angharad Smith (Year 5) and Joel Griffin (2L). Joel has already been working with Ben and Mr Morris to take meter readings for gas, electricity and water and Angharad has been helping out with collecting the Yellow Pages. This year we managed to collect almost 400 copies!

Here are some of the other things we do as an Eco School:

Water saving taps in toilets.
Energy efficient lights.
Recycling paper in every class.
