Cwrt Rawlin Primary
Year 4 called themselves 'History Detectives' and researched the history of Llancaiach Fawr. This included a meeting with a 'Soldier' based at Llancaiach Fawr during the early history of the building. The class researched the periods concerned and created webpages about their findings about the history of the House, its various residents and the period related to the year chosen seen through the eyes of a child of the time. They expressed their ideas in stories and playlets.
Heritage projects
"Caerphilly Castle through the Ages"
Year 3 visited the castle and discussed the different approaches to recording its colourful history. They gathered historical evidence from a range of sources which included books, maps, plans, the internet, interviewing the cutodian of the castle and followed up with numerous visits to the castle. The class perfomed and recorded a child friendly audio guide which can be used by children as they tour the Castle. On their journey around the Castle the visitors will meet characters related to the Castle's history. They downloaded the final recording, wiht sound effects, on to an MP3 player so that young people can easily access the audio guide.
"Bedwas Now and then - a documentary"
Year 5 looked beyond their school grounds to find an area of interest to investigate as history detectives. They carried out research on Bedwas colliery and looked into what life was like during the mining times and compared them to life today. They used a variety of resources including local people and used their ICT skills to create a documentary to show their findings.
