School Curriculum
Whilst
the priority of the school is the teaching of the core subjects of English,
Mathematics, Science and ICT the children will receive a broad curriculum
through the study of Welsh, Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical
Education and Religious Education. Nursery
and reception children will experience this curriculum through the ‘Desirable
Outcomes’ and the ‘Four Counties Profile’.
Health
education is provided mainly in the context of the science programmes of study,
which help pupils acquire the knowledge and understanding that is essential for
healthy living through emphasising the development of healthy lifestyles, eating
a healthy diet and taking regular exercise.
Nursery and reception children will experience health education through
personal and social development. There
is no specific subject inclusions under the teaching of sex education in the
school. Aspects are only covered as
they may arise in certain areas of science.
A
number of curriculum areas are enriched by educational visits to places of
interest such as Llancaiach Fawr, Techniquest,
Rhondda
Heritage
Park
, Welsh Heritage Museum St Fagans,
Caerphilly
Castle
, Dan-yr-Ogof caves and
Cyfartha
Castle
. There are regular residential
visits to the Kingswood Centre to enhance the delivery of ITC and Outdoor
Pursuits.
