Gilfach Fargoed Primary School is in Vere Street in the village of Gilfach, just a short distance away from the Rhymney Valley town of Bargoed and seventeen miles north of Cardiff. The school is a 3 - 11 county controlled primary school for boys and girls.
The school comprises of two separate buildings, one an Infant department and the other the Junior department. The Headteacher’s room is in the Junior department and this building also accommodates 3 classrooms, a teachers resource area / library and the school kitchen. Three of the classrooms are carpeted. Two further classrooms are sited in the Infant building and in a portacabin in the yard.
The Infant department enjoys the benefits of a Nursery class, and they also have their own purpose built library.
These buildings are surrounded by the Infant and Junior playgrounds. Opposite the Infant block a playing field offers additional sporting opportunities.

AIMS OF THE SCHOOL

- Ensure all children learn to write legibly and present their work attractively.
- Help all pupils to acquire the skills of literacy, numeracy problem solving and information technology so that they become effective learners and to help all pupils to develop their creative abilities and be able to express themselves creatively, musically and artistically.
- Develop a respect for religious and moral values, and sympathy with races and religion.
- Encourage a sense of responsibility in caring for the school environment and the wider community.
