Schemes of Work
At Key Stage 4 we have a good record of achievement in Music. All GCSE classes follow the WJEC Specification. The course is divided into 5 Areas of Study – Music in Wales, Musical Structure, Music for Special Occasions, Music for the Stage and Screen and Music Evolution. Pupils are required to submit 2 compositions (40%), perform both as a soloist and in an ensemble (30%) and complete a listening paper based on the Areas of Study (30%)
At Key Stage 3, pupils receive approximately 3 hours of Music lessons per timetabled fortnight (Yr7/8) and 2 hours in Year 9. All lessons incorporate singing, instrumental work, individual work, group work and whole class activities. Pupils also participate in composing and appraisal tasks. Pupils are also encouraged to develop their own instrumental skills in lessons, and particularly where someone plays an instrument they are encouraged to perform in front of their peers. Every pupil is taught to associate with an electronic keyboard. Assessment is carried out in a variety of Composing, Appraising and Practical tasks using a variety of methods.
