Years 8 & 9 French Department Visit to

Cwmcarn Scenic Drive – July 2008

After the Whitsun Holiday, Years 8 and 9 French lessons focussed on a project, welcoming French visitors to a local tourist attraction, the Scenic Drive at Cwmcarn.  We are keen to sue our locality to make learning a language meaningful and exciting!

We contacted the Manager at the Visitor Centre, and we arranged to mount a display of all our work for the month of July.  A group of 15 pupils spent an afternoon looking around the area, and back in lessons we started to plan our display.  For a few weeks we wrote diaries about a stay at the Forest Drive, described  Cwmcarn village and its surroundings, made crosswords, decorated a recycling bin, produced posters about protecting the environment.

We made a second trip to the Scenic Drive at the end of June, when we mounted our display in the foyer of the Visitor’s Centre.  It must have been the only sunny day we had this summer, as we enjoyed paddling in the lake and eating a picnic after completing our work.

Mrs Morgan and Mrs Way would like to thank last years Year 8 and 9 pupils for all their efforts to make this project a huge success; these pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school.  We are very proud of our school.

Well done!
