The More Able and Talented initiative helps our more able pupils to develop their personalities, skills and abilities, intellectually and socially. It makes learning, challenging and enjoyable and enables our more able pupils to achieve their potential.
Literacy Talents
Children’s development of reading, writing and
speaking and listening work can be developed using many approaches. More complex
comprehension, book reviews, use of dictionaries and thesaurus’, use of
different genres are encouraged to enhance reading skills.
Setting specific targets to ensure standards are being raised can improve
the development of writing skills. Speaking and listening is extended through
the use of drama, and classroom / whole school based performances.
Mathematical Talents
Extra maths problem solving challenges and advanced
work is supplied to encourage and extend skills and understanding.
Sporting Talents
Sporting talents are observed and skills are
developed through P.E. lessons and school sporting competitions.
Artistic Talents
Many art competitions are successfully entered in
school. Art projects are frequently undertaken in school, for example, Big
Art’s Week. These projects encourage and expand on children’s artistic
talents.
Musical Talents
Children are always encouraged to develop their
musical talents within the school e.g. brass, recorders, etc. Those with an
exceptional flair for music are invited to perform for the school on many
occasions, both inside school and for outside performances.
Organisation
Children with special talents are given Individual
Action Plans where targets are specifically set for their talents. These I. A.
P.’s are arranged by the More Able and Talented Co-ordinator and class
teacher, the parents and children are then informed of the talents and I. A .P.’s
and are approved.
Extra Curricular Activities
| The L. E. A. organises many training days to
encourage and further develop children with specific talents.
| The children are encouraged to attend outside clubs
and groups that will develop the children’s specific talents. |
