Fochriw Primary School Book Club - A team of pupils from Fochriw Primary school travelled to Aberystwyth to take part in the national final of the Welsh Books Council's Children's Book Competition. |

Jenny Sullivan Author Visit.
On the 2nd June, Jenny worked with a group of pupils from Fochriw Primary School at Llancaiach Fawr Manor. This particular group of pupils are the winners of the county heat of the Welsh Books Council(WBC) competition and will be representing the county at the WBC National Competion, later this month.
On the 4th June, J enny Sullivan visited St Gwladys Primary school for sessions with year 4 and year 5 pupils. |

World Book Day Creative Writing Project with Author, Phil Carradice.
Staff from SLS have worked in partnership with Education Advisor, Martin Willliams, to organise activities and events for this project. Author, Phil Carradice delivered several sessions to groups of year 7pupils from Secondary schools across the county. Pupils also engaged in various group research activities leading up to the final event, which was held in the Grand Hall at Caerphilly Castle on March 3rd 2008. Pupils created individual stories based on life in medieval Wales.

World Book Day Competition for Primary Schools:SLS arranged a World Book Day Competition for Primary schools in Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent. Pupils were asked to write a book review or draw a picture to illustrate their favourite book.........more

Schools Librarian , Alison Court, is pleased to be back working for Caerphilly SLS following her secondment last year to Cardiff Education Advisory Service. Alison returns to us part time on a job share. We would like to offer a warm welcome to Victoria Hyams who is sharing the post of Schools Librarian with Alison. Some of you will have already met Vicki, as she worked for the Read A Million Words in Wales scheme in Caerphilly during 2007. |
