Secondary School Library Book Quiz July 2006 - winners are Tredegar Comprehensive School

   
  Congratulations to Jane Williams, Learning Resource Centre Manager at Blackwood Comprehensive, who has recently qualified as a librarian after completing her Bsc Econ. degree. Jane studied for her degree via distance learning at the University of Aberystwyth. We wish her every success in her future career.

Author visit: we were pleased to welcome author Helena Pielichaty who visited St Illtyd's Primary school. Helena entertained year 6, year 5 and year3/4 pupils, with lively and very interesting performances. An' excellent' day which pupils thoroughly enjoyed. We look forward to welcoming Helena back in the future.

  Author visit : Keith Gray visits Heolddu Comprehensive school. Keiths first book, Creepers , was published in 1996 when he was 24 and was shortlisted for the Guardian Award. The Runner published in 1998 won the Smarties Silver Prize.

Schools Library Service Training Day 13 November 2005:
Schools Library Service recently held a Training Day, “ The Effective Primary School Library Co-ordinator” with Geoff Dubber. Overall, it was considered to be a very successful event.

  Secondary School Library of the Year 2005 Competition Winners:
Congratulations to Rhymney Comprehensive, winners of the Secondary School Library of the Year Competition. This is the first year Schools Library Service have held this competition and it was pleasing to have such a high standard of applications.  Second Prize was awarded to Lewis School, Pengam and Third Prize to Blackwood Comprehensive School.   Schools Library Service Training:
Last term, Schools Library Service invited David Streatfield to run a training course on Secondary School Library Self- Evaluation.  David is the co-author of the Secondary School Library Self – Evaluation document and guidelines.   School library staff who attended considered it to be a very useful and interesting day.   Stories from the Web: Schools Library Service are pleased to announce that they now subscribe to the Stories from the Web Reader Development website. This subscription is in conjunction with Caerphilly Public Library Service.

  Inset Training news: The Moving Forward Training Day, run by Geoff Dubber was held at Schools Library Service on 15th October 2004. Overall, it was considered to be a highly successful event by the course delegates, who included a mixture of teachers and school library staff. More...
 

 

  Increase in Fiction Exchange
Following suggestions for improvement from our customers, the book allocation for your Fiction Exchange will be increased from 1 to 1.5 per pupil from October 2004.

New Services from Schools Library Service - Religious Artefacts
Schools Library Service now have a small collection of Religious Artefacts which are available for loan on request.
We also have a small collection of photographic resource packs related to some key topic themes. These are also avalilable for loan on request.

  Schools Library Service Website statistics
Following the successful launch of the Schools Library Service Website, the first visitor statistics are now available.For the first full month of the site being available we have received over 2152 page visits and 130 Unique visitors. First time visitors were 75 and returning visitors 55. The figures are taken from 22/06/04 to 21/07/04.
